Outreach program - St. Mark's Lutheran Chuch

The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) is a church that believes God is calling us into the world — not away or apart from it. We are freed in Christ to serve and love our neighbor and that is exactly what we strive to do here at St. Mark’s; to share God’s love.

St. Mark’s mission statement includes “Serving Neighbors,” doing God’s work with our hands and living the commandment to “love our neighbors as ourselves.” Through our outreach ministries we not only serve our church community but also our neighbors in our nearby communities, our Synod, and beyond. Our members are welcomed and encouraged to participate in these activities as they are able.

Church Community

  • Shepherds – Includes sending get well and sympathy cards, treats for the house bound, organizing food following a funeral service among other things.

Local

  • Community Dinner – Takeout only, held on third Thursdays several times a year. On months the dinner is not at St. Mark’s, it is held at the First Presbyterian Church on Oswego St.

  • Sack Lunch Sunday – Our monthly God’s Work. Our Hands. Offering. On the second Sunday, immediately following worship we make 80 sandwiches and along with them add chips, granola bar, and fruit to a lunch bag and distribute them between 11:30am-12:30pm.

  • Loads of Love – On the first Wednesday and third Sunday of each month, you’ll find us at the Colonial laundromat. Offering funds, laundry products, and hospitality to our community. You can help by providing supplies and being present at the laundromat

  • Food Pantry – Each month we collect a specific food and then deliver to our local pantry for distribution.

  • Other – Baldwinsville Christmas Bureau Angel Tree, CNY Diaper Bank, Box of Balloons, Sleep in Heavenly Peace, Peace, Inc Coat Drive, and Interfaith Works.

SYNOD

  • Campus Ministry – Provide baskets for fundraisers.

  • Crop Walk – Be a walker, sponsor a walker or both!

ELCA

  • World Hunger – Participate in synod assembly challenge. Make soup for our Soup and Salad to go Sunday. Contribute to Souper Bowl Sunday

  • Lutheran Disaster Relief – Respond to special appeals
