Pastor Chuck’s Corner: April 2025

“I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” John 10:10b (NIV)

With the arrival of Spring each year many people take the time to clear out some of the things that may have been cluttering up their homes during the winter months.

I also know that a number of folks are downsizing as children move out and the need for extra space is no longer there. Without the burden of cleaning and maintaining that extra space, there comes a bit more freedom.

Both of these examples fit the ‘less is more’ philosophy. With a reduced number of things and rooms the ‘more’ might be found in having extra time for recreational things. Perhaps selling the old homestead to move into a smaller living space will create some discretionary funds for your budget; money that might be spent on travel or hobbies.

Please understand that there is nothing wrong with any of these things. The results of a lifetime of hard work and family dedication are deserving of some creature comforts.

But let’s take a moment to reconsider ‘less is more’ through the lens of having Jesus Christ as your Savior. The Lord is quoted at the top of this page saying that he has come to give us life to the full. He certainly does not refer to a garage filled with toys or unlimited expense-free travel around the world.

Instead, the fullness of life Jesus brings can be best realized when we have made room in our hearts to accommodate what he brings. Said another way, if I can decrease the distractions of trying to accumulate treasures in this life, I may be better able to focus on those things that can truly satisfy my heart.

Less is definitely more when it means less of me and more of Jesus. As we celebrate the joy of the Resurrection this year, may we all know the full life Jesus offers to us.

Be blessed and be a blessing,

Pastor Chuck
