Council Corner: August 2026

Dear Friends in Christ,

As August arrives, we find ourselves in a season of transition. Summer is beginning to wind down, families are preparing for the return of school routines, and our congregation is looking a head to the many opportunities for worship, learning, fellowship, and service that the fall season will bring.

Council did not hold a meeting during the month of July, allowing members a brief summer pause before returning to our regular meeting schedule. Although Council did not meet, the life and ministry of St. Mark’s continued through worship, fellowship, committee work, planning, and the faithful service of our members and volunteers.

One of the highlights of August will be our St. Mark’s Congregational Picnic on Sunday, August 30, immediately following worship. This year’s theme is: “Goodbye to Summer, Hello Fall!”

We hope everyone will join us for an afternoon of good food, fellowship, and fun as we celebrate the end of summer and welcome the beginning of a new season together.

Sign-up sheets are available in the gathering space. Please take a moment to RSVP with the number of people attending and indicate what dish you plan to bring. Your response will help the Fellowship Team prepare for the picnic and ensure there is plenty of food for everyone.

As we look ahead to September, our Christian education programs will begin on Sunday,September 13.

● Sunday School will explore the seasons of the church year, helping our young people learn about the meaning, traditions, and colors connected to the church calendar.

●Adult Bible Study will focus on the Lord’s Prayer, providing an opportunity to reflect more deeply on the prayer Jesus taught us and what its words mean for our daily lives.

Additional information about Sunday School and Adult Bible Study will be shared as we get closer to September. We hope members of all ages will consider participating.

I would also like to extend a special thank-you to our Fellowship Team for reorganizing and scheduling weekly fellowship following Sunday worship services. These gatherings provide an important opportunity for members and visitors to connect, enjoy conversation, and strengthen relationships within our congregation.

Thank you as well to the Fellowship Team for coordinating the Seneca River boat tour. It was a wonderful opportunity for members to spend time together outside of church and enjoy a special summer outing.

The Fellowship Team has several additional activities planned for the coming months, so please keep an eye on the church newsletter, announcements, and gathering-space information for details. We are grateful for their creativity, organization, and commitment to providing meaningful opportunities for fellowship.

As we prepare to say goodbye to summer and hello to fall, may we continue to support one another, welcome new opportunities, and remain thankful for the many people who share their time and talents with St. Mark’s.
