Children

Being a Christian is not about memorizing a bunch of information or learning how to follow the rules. It is about learning to be faithful and discerning in a complex world. Our Christian Formation program helps children, youth, and adults cultivate a way of life that values caring for those in need, taking responsibility for God's world, curiosity, wonderment, and deepening our relationship with God. St. Mark’s values all the gifts that children offer our congregation.

Baptismal Preparation

Baptism is the beginning of our journey with God. We encourage and equip parents with a number of resources: instruction, congregational support, a child's book of prayers, a children's Bible, and a newsletter called Splash! about faith development for kids up to three years old. We recognize that parents need support as they nurture their children's baptismal journey of faith. We provide social and learning opportunities for parents throughout the year.

Sunday School (ages 3- 5th grade)

Sunday School classes are held on most Sundays during the school year, from 9:15 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. If you would like for your child to try out a Sunday School class or to be enrolled, call the church at 315-638-0406. Our Sunday School program starts at the age 3 and ends at 4th grade.

First Communion Preparation

When children prepare for First Communion they discover that there is a special place for them at God's Table. They become full participants and partners in the ministry we share. Most kids at St. Mark’s receive their First Communion in second grade.

Children’s JAM (Journey with Jesus)

The first Wednesday of the month we offer dinner and worship with the children of the church. It is a great time for fellowship, and an opportunity for the children to dive into worship together and feel more comfortable in a worship setting.

Vacation Bible School

Vacation Bible School in July is the most fun-filled week of the year at St. Mark’s. Nearly 100 grade-school children of St. Mark’s and the community participate in five weekday mornings of learning, crafts, singing, and great fun. It’s an experience that youth will never forget!

Children’s Books

Within St. Mark’s Library is a growing collection of children’s books that may be borrowed at any time. Take time to browse.
